General Safety Induction (Work Safely and Follow OHS Procedures)
This eight hour program, delivered face-to-face, is competency based and incorporates adult learning training concepts. Successful completion of a practical assessment in their workplace will entitle candidates to a Statement of Attainment for the national unit of competency RIIOHS201A Work Safely and Follow OH&S Policies and Procedures, from the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package RII09.
Presented in a classroom situation of not more than 20 persons, the only pre-requisite is that the candidate must meet normal literacy requirements. A certificate of completion (laminated card) is issued to each successful candidate.
The program is designed for workers engaged in the following major industry sectors:
- metalliferous mining
- coal mining
- drilling
- extractive industries
- civil construction
and other industrial workplaces as a basic introduction to health and safety working practices.
General Safety Inductions must be refreshed every two years to ensure awareness of current legislative and regulatory requirements, and industry and OHS practices.
This refresher process can be undertaken through participation in our General Safety Refresher program or the alternative Fast Track option.
To ensure continuous currency, the card must be revalidated before its expiry date.
A 90 day ‘grace’ period is allowed for revalidation. Beyond this period, a full eight hour induction must be completed to reinstate the currency of the card.
Please note that the General Safety Induction does not replace the employer site-specific safety induction program which identifies the hazards at that workplace.
